Casting the net

May 11, 2025 in Life, Lisbon

After years of hesitation, procrastination and unsubstantiated perfectionism, I've been told to cast the net and start my website/blog in its imperfect state.

So VOILA.

It's a lot harder than it looks.

How does one stop trying to be a perfectionist?

It was interesting. In a coaching discussion with Nicole Mosby, we talked about the difference between personal brand and personal story, trying to fit into a box and putting a value on a value.

Are you confused yet? I am.

I've spent the last years being extremely hesitant about my blog because I've been trying to perfectionize it, but to what standard?

I'm trying to create a perfect blog, with a clear target audience, niche and logically organised structure, which is what you're supposed to do according to the online guides. Most entrepreneurial courses also teach you to have a unique and well-defined value proposition.

Yet, I want to write about my journey healing from trauma, my passion for sustainability and social justice, as well as topics like financial privilege, surveillance capitalism and what it's like to live in Lisbon.

So I guess I will have to settle for the fact that this blog will be about as disorganised, chaotic and messy as my life is. The way Nicole put it was,

Your life is not a square box. So why are you trying to put yourself inside a box?

Perhaps, I'll call this my blob instead of my blog, because I feel a bit like a blob. Anyways, so here I am casting the net, writing my first post on my fresh, new, clean-slate blob. At 42 (the school where I'm studying software engineering), they'd say "just keep swimming", hence the turtle photo.
